On August 13, the 2023 China‑Russia Academician Symposium on Engineering Innovation Cooperation was successfully held at the Talent‑Gathering Hall, Zhongke Building, Haidian District, Beijing. The event aims to advance the sharing of talent resources, build science‑technology innovation platforms, and accelerate the commercialisation of research findings between China and Russia. It also seeks to deepen the China‑Russia comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership for a new era and inject sustained robust momentum into bilateral innovation cooperation.

Co‑hosted by the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission, the People’s Government of Haidian District and the China Center of the Russian Academy of Engineering (RAE), the symposium was undertaken by the Beijing Global Talent Exchange Promotion Association and co‑organised by Juyingchuang Group. The Administrative Commission of Zhongguancun Science Park and the Russian Academy of Engineering acted as guiding authorities. The conference drew 16 Foreign Academicians of the Russian Academy of Engineering as well as experts from multiple disciplines representing universities including Tsinghua University and Beijing Institute of Technology, together with capital‑based research institutions. Enterprises such as COMAC (Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd.) and CATARC (China Automotive Technology and Research Center Co., Ltd.) also sent representatives to attend.

Ding Zhifeng, Executive President and Secretary‑General of the Beijing Global Talent Exchange Promotion Association, delivered an opening address. He noted that the symposium centred on “deepening engagement” and “pragmatism”. Its goal is to expand China‑Russia collaboration in engineering science and technology, facilitate the delivery of practical joint projects by Chinese and Russian academicians and experts, and furnish strong scientific and‑technological support for bilateral cooperation across sectors.

Valery Tyan, Vice‑President of the Russian Academy of Engineering; Gennady Vladimirovich Kustarev, Vice‑President of RAE; Vasily Vasilyevich Solin, Professor and Chief Researcher at the Institute of Mechanics of the Russian Academy of Sciences and RAE Academician; and Mikhail Yuryevich Fedotov, Vice‑President of RAE, delivered remarks in sequence. They voiced expectations for further improvement of R&D achievement application systems and broader innovation‑driven cooperation between the two countries.
During the session for academicians’ science‑tech project presentations, leading experts gave thematic speeches on respective topics:

In the session featuring experts’ research‑achievement reports, participants presented their research outcomes and shared prospects for scientific‑technological cooperation with Russia. Speakers included Professor Xu Jifeng, one of the originators of internationally‑recognised composite‑structure dynamic‑response modelling, Deputy Chief Engineer for airframe design and Deputy Director of the COMAC Beijing Civil‑aircraft Research Centre; Dr. Wu Yongfei, Chief Scientist and Chief Information Officer of Huaxia Bank; Professor Shi Wei, Chair Professor at Tianjin University, world‑class expert in high‑end fibre‑laser and terahertz‑optics technologies; Professor Zhang Weiru, leading authority on high‑performance silicon‑nitride ceramics, Chairman of the National Industrial Ceramics Standardisation Committee and Director of the National Industrial Ceramics Engineering Research Centre; and Professor Wei Qin, Second‑Grade Professor at University of Jinan.

The symposium is designed to boost exchanges among Chinese and Russian researchers and drive the real‑world application of more engineering‑science‑and‑technology outputs. Following the conference, the Russian Academy of Engineering will conduct site visits to participating enterprises and research institutes to explore potential further collaboration. This event carries great significance for high‑quality scientific‑technological development in both China and Russia, as well as for global peace.
