On October 29, Isabel Crook, 105‑year‑old recipient of China’s Friendship Medal, accompanied by her son Michael Crook, founder of the Western Academy of Beijing, visited the “Beijing Home for International Friends” under the Beijing Global Talents Exchange Association. She studied the English‑language edition of the third volume of The Governance of China, and held exchanges focusing on Chapter Seventeen, “Working Together to Build a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind”, among other themes.

This study‑and‑exchange session was tailor‑made for Ms. Crook. Recently, partnering with Beijing Review, the Beijing Global Talents Exchange Association has organized study sessions on the third volume of The Governance of China for international friends residing in Beijing at the platform of “Beijing Home for International Friends”, which has drawn positive responses from foreign participants. More international friends will join such study and exchange activities in the future.

“Beijing Home for International Friends” is China’s first service institution dedicated to foreign experts and international friends. Launched in December 2019 by the Beijing Global Talents Exchange Association, leveraging its professional strengths in international talent exchange and cooperation, together with distinguished foreign experts and representatives of international friends in Beijing as well as the International Committee for the Promotion of Chinese Industrial Cooperatives (ICCIC), it serves as a venue for social interaction and a spiritual home for mutual learning among international friends in the Chinese capital. It aims to improve the environment for foreign talents working in China and support Beijing’s endeavour to develop itself into “four centres”, in particular the national centre for science and technology innovation and the national centre for international exchanges.

The initiative has received guidance and support from relevant national ministries, Beijing Municipal Bureau of Talent Affairs, Beijing Foreign Affairs Office and Zhongguancun Administrative Committee, and has won wide acclaim among international friends.
