On November 8, the Capital Haizhi “Innovation‑Link” series event — the 2024 Sino‑Russian Oncology Medical Experts Symposium — was successfully held at Zhongke Building in Beijing. The event brought together a Russian oncology medical delegation led by Director Tatyana from Lukomsky Hospital, alongside oncology specialists from major Chinese hospitals including Beijing Xuanwu Hospital and the Chinese People’s Liberation Army General Hospital. The symposium adopted the theme “Strengthening Sino‑Foreign Scientific and Technological Exchanges to Advance Medical Development”.

Lu Xiaopeng, Director of the Beijing International Center for Science and Technology Exchange, delivered the opening address. On behalf of BAST, he expressed hopes that participating experts and scholars would engage in in‑depth exchanges, draw inspiration from one another, jointly advance progress in oncology, and contribute wisdom to the health wellbeing of people in China, Russia and across the globe.

Professor Tatyana, Honorary Professor of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Director of Lukomsky Oncology Hospital, took the floor. Through a video presentation of Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University, she outlined the institution’s and hospital’s medical resources and talent pool, and voiced expectations for continuously strengthening and deepening hospital‑to‑hospital cooperation and personnel exchanges with Chinese counterparts.

Andrey Vladimirovich, Member of the Russian Society of Oncology and member of the Eastern European Sarcoma Group, gave a detailed presentation on Russia’s oncology research outcomes and clinical practices.

Professor Zhi Xiuyi, Director of the Lung Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment Center and Chief Expert of Thoracic Surgery at Capital Medical University, elaborated on the development of oncology in China as well as the clinical strengths of Xuanwu Hospital in lung‑cancer treatment. He noted that China has strengthened cancer prevention in recent years by enacting tobacco‑control legislation and stepping up public‑awareness campaigns on cancer prevention and treatment.

Subsequently, Director Li Xiaosong from the Department of Radiation Oncology, the 7th Medical Center of the PLA General Hospital, and Chief Physician Zhang Xia from the Department of Radiation Oncology, the 6th Medical Center of the PLA General Hospital shared insights in their respective fields.

Medical experts from both sides agreed to carry out further practical exchanges and cooperation in oncology, learning from each other’s clinical and research experience.

2024 marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Russia. As paired friendship cities, Beijing and Moscow maintain extensive cooperation in science‑technology, culture, humanities, trade and economy. At this oncology symposium, Chinese and Russian specialists shared cutting‑edge research findings, discussed forward‑looking medical concepts and exchanged hands‑on clinical experience. It is expected to spark further reflections among participants, unlock new cooperation opportunities, and drive progress in basic medical research and clinical oncology diagnosis and treatment in both countries.

As a national‑scope social organization specialising in international talent and technical exchange, the Beijing Global Talent Exchange Association has actively rolled out the Capital Haizhi “Innovation‑Link” series events in recent years. It builds bridges for exchanges between Chinese and foreign medical experts and accelerates international innovation cooperation in healthcare.
